That was also part of a lengthy conversation my good friend Barry Richardson and I had yesterday.

Barry is well known for finding awesome nuggets and extremely helpful resources and then making them available to everyone and we were discussing how he really knows what’s hot and what’s not and how he keeps an eye on what is performing well for him and what’s junk in the trunk.

So… Barry starts telling me about tracking and I swear I didn’t mean to, but Barry heard the groan that came from me (ok, they heard that groan down in Houston I think).

He asked me why I wasn’t doing more of it, since he knows I do track some conversions, as well as traffic and the likes, but he knew right away that I didn’t test, track and tweak the way I know I should.

Like I said, it’s a weakness I am overcoming and I don’t like how complicated it all is.

Luckily, Barry has an answer for that, something that is Xavier-Proof (meaning even I can’t screw it up and that’s better than Dummy-Proof).

Ok, so my interest was peaked, but I was still hesitant simply because of the difficulty these things normally bring with them, setting up, installing and configuring and the rest of the pain that comes with it.

As I told you in the last issue earlier this morning, I had some pretty interesting stuff to tell you about, and this first one is definitely very interesting to me personally.

You see, like everyone, I also try my hardest to drive quality, targeted traffic to my sites and offers and I use a variety of ways to do that, but to be honest, there’s this whole thing about the new Web 2.0 methods that I don’t understand a 100% percent yet, but I am getting the hang of it slowly but surely.

For example, not too long ago, I told you how one reader tagged one of my blog pages through StumbleUpon and suddenly, out of nowhere 256 new visitors stopped by that page. ALL IN ONE DAY!

That’s 256 sets of eyeballs my site and offers were exposed to, all from a couple of lines talking about me on a Web 2.0 site.

Not bad huh? Well, there’s a lot more that can bring you droves of traffic every single day if you apply and use the Web 2.0 methods correctly. I was listening to a cd from Joe Vitale where he interviewed this retired marketer who just came back online because he was bored and created this blog with a wacky domain name (not about marketing) and within just a few months, he was getting anywhere from 800 to 1200 unique visitors per day to show up on his blog and you know what the kicker for me was?

More than 85% of those new visitors every day came from Web 2.0 sites, they didn’t come from the big search engines like Google or Yahoo!

You tell me, could your site or blog use an extra 500 or 800 unique visitors a day? I know mine can and so I am really paying close attention and learning more. I know I’ve been rather silent lately, but the good news is that slowly but surely I am getting back on my feet again.

For those of you that have emailed me, please bear with me, I am still working through all the mail and today was a new record for me, I was actually able to sit at the computer and get some work done for about 3 hours. It’s what the gurus use — every one of them (and I am using it too, just not as strongly yet as some of the bigshots, but that’s increasing for me too, so keep your eyes open on the next issues of Xavier’s Tips and see how you can benefit from it too).
And, if you looked behind the scenes at their stats (the bigshots), you’d see it clear as day. They all have active affiliate programs.

If you don’t have a great affiliate program in place for each of your products right now, you are leaving quite a bit of money on the table. Note that I said “Great Affiliate Program”. You want a program in place that has affiliates that are actively promoting your products and are excited to do so.

Last night our server team performed some maintenance and also did some upgrades to the internal network capacity in addition to working on more redundancy features of the server farm. All of this extra work to help make XavierNelson.com stand strong during the upcoming launches (I have some fun things planned for you) made me think about getting more traffic to the site and blog.

I noticed some new sites and services recently that promise to help with bringing more targeted visitors to your site and also to generate you some more income, but I wanted to test them out a little first to see if it’s worth the effort. After all, what good will it do me to tell you about some of these if they don’t bring any new visitors, right?

Two of them I will post about on another day, they take a few days to get confirmed with (I like that they make sure and confirm, keeps the ‘riff-raff’ out of their networks) but I do have a couple of updates for you today that you can use yourself and hey, the price is right - FREE!

As you already know, lately BlogRush has been making a lot of waves with their very unique new service that brings you targeted traffic to your blog, but since the massive and incredible launch of their free service, a lot of people have been grumbling because some of the features they would like just aren’t there - yet…

When http://www.xaviernelson.com/access/to/freeblogtraffic was launched, a mass influx brought the servers nearly to it’s knees and after that, the usual thing happened… It’s always the same…. Something good comes out and people start to abuse the system.

So I was very happy when I saw that the team at BlogRush decided to move things to a manual review of every member’s site to make sure there were no further abuses and they have been working on a lot of new goodies to take BlogRush to another level, something else I am very excited about. I read on John Reese’s blog about the latest updates and even got a sneak peek at screenshots of the new dashboard area and it’s definitely going continue to be a powerful traffic tool bringing free targeted traffic to your blog, so make sure to register for your own free blog traffic at http://www.xaviernelson.com/access/to/freeblogtraffic too.
But that wasn’t really the new ‘toys’ and tools I had wanted to talk about, but I felt the update about BlogRush was needed since some people still are on the fence and unsure about it.

On to the new traffic tools and income sources I have been playing with…
One of the first things I did was rearrange some of the widgets on my sidebars at XavierNelson.com, I hope you like the new layout, drop me a note or better yet, post your comments.

Then I added a small mapping widget that I got from Feedjit just for fun really. This widget doesn’t bring you any new visitors, but if you look on the right side, you’ll see a small map of the globe and the red dots are recent visitors to the site. The team at http://runurl.com/xx.php?enh also has a few other Live Traffic Stat Feed options you can use and they are all free. Not that you will get any more exposure for your own site or extra revenue, but it’s always nice to see where your visitors are coming from. I will say that I am not 100% convinced as to how accurate it is yet, because my own statistics show a much larger visitor count since I installed it, but it’s still new, so we’ll see how it goes.

I have always liked being able to see where in the world you are located when you come to visit my blog and especially since I started using StatCounter as my main statistics tracker I have made sure to peek at their map more frequently to see a few of the recent visitors (there instead of a few dots, I have 9 pages of maps with dots, unlike the mini map from Feedjit). Here’s an example of what one of the maps from StatCounter.com (also free) looks like, but it’s definitely always interesting (this example picture is a lot smaller than what you actually see in your account):

As a matter of fact, it was the pin on one of my maps that showed me that one of my most frequent visitors (I hope I don’t embarass her, but she’s a sweetheart and someone to keep a close eye on in the Internet Marketing Crowd) Gitte (Hallo meine Freunde aus Deutschland - Ganz besondere Gruesse an alle aus meiner Heimat, der Coburger gegend in Oberfranken).

I noticed one of the pins came from Germany and it led me to find someone had written a review about my own blog at StumbleUpon (another site I just recently discovered myself) and you can see it for yourself at http://www.stumbleupon.com/url/www.xaviernelson.com/

There are a lot of Social Networking and Community sites all over the internet, such as the one I introduced you to in the past at Apsense where you can setup your own community in about 10 minutes and more are popping up all over the place every day.

As you’ve seen in the past, I have a growing MyBlogLog Community and new services that are pretty similar have also been coming out of the woodworks. I have added a couple others such as Bumpzee and Criteo. Now I do have to admit that I have not so far been able to figure out everything you can do with these two services, but they definitely have quite a bit to offer and are worth taking a closer look at. Another one I just added was BlogCatalog but it does take a couple of days to be approved by them, so I will report on my experiences with them in a few days.

All in all, each of these services were pretty easy to get rolling with and you really don’t need a lot of technical (if any) experience to get them setup on your blog or website.

Another new traffic service I am testing is AdgridWork which provides you with adblocks, but you don’t get paid for them, but instead receive credits for every display on your own site and in turn your ad is shown on other sites. It’s very similar to the old fashioned banner and link exchanges, but with a more up-to-date touch to it.
Now like I said, some of these bring me extra traffic, but I have also added some new revenue streams to my blog that you can use too (and they are also free)…

CrispAds displays targeted ads to any visitors, and you can use it for your site too, but I am rather intrigued about the ad widget I got at WidgetBucks today. It looks really sharp, I am able to choose from the categories of ads I want to display or allow their bot to scan and find good ads that match my content (although I think it takes a while for the system to do that, so at first your ads may not match your site content). All in all, I liked WidgetBucks because it looks classy and as long as the ads to match up to the content in the long run, I will be very happy with it I am sure and it pays quite a bit more than some other traditional blog revenue streams.

That is, do you attempt to get traffic to your site by doing all kinds of activities ranging from SEO to PPC listings to buying solo mailings?

In other words, do you “juggle” your traffic generation activities like multi-colored balls – never holding on to one for very long and always moving on to the next one?

As a recovering “traffic juggler” myself, I can tell you this with great certainty … you and I aren’t alone.

Sadly, most internet marketers wear the same hat.  They complicate things by trying every new traffic strategy, buying ever new traffic tool and joining every new traffic program.

It doesn’t need to be that way.

In fact, what I want to suggest to you in this article will make your life a whole lot easier, and, as a direct result, will actually get more traffic to your site than ever before.

Brace yourself for a life-changing statement –

   ** If you have your own product to sell online,
      you only need to focus on ONE traffic strategy! **

Yep, you read that correctly.

Instead of trying to do a gazillion things, there is a very simple, very effective approach:  focus on the ONE thing that really matters, the ONE thing that produces the greatest results, the ONE thing that will get you all the traffic you’ll ever need.

And that ONE thing is to…

** Start, Strengthen and Spread Your Own Affiliate Program**

Let’s look at that statement in 3 steps for simplicity purposes…

Step 1:  *START* Your Affiliate Program.

There is one major reason why you need to start your own affiliate program that stands head and shoulders above the rest:  every traffic generation concept (past, present and future) can be done FOR YOU, BY OTHERS if you have your own affiliate program in place.

Let that sink in.  Chew on that for a while.  It’s such a paradigm shift that most people don’t even realize the tidal-wave-like power behind the concept.

Instead of you working with PPC ads and you working on the SEO stuff and you buying the solo mailings, you can get others to do this FOR YOU as a member of your affiliate program.

So, to begin with, you need to start your own affiliate program.  A great place to do this is Clickbank.com.

Step 2:  *STRENGTHEN* Your Affiliate Program.

After establishing your affiliate program, it’s important to “strengthen” it.  That is, you will need to train your affiliates to do all of the marketing for you.  You’ll also need to provide them with marketing materials such as brandable PDF reports, articles, advertisements, banners, etc.

But, let’s take this another step.

Instead of loading some marketing and training materials to your affiliate center and leaving it up to your affiliates to figure out how to use them, why not point out how to use them?

Example:  List 10 great newsletters where they can purchase solo mailings to promote your offer.  Put something in there for every budget.  (What a nice treat it will be when one of your aggressive affiliates purchases a $500 solo mailing to promote your offer!)

You’ll be SHOCKED to see what this one additional step can mean to your bottom line.

But, you could take it even another step further.

How about offering to personally train 10 affiliates in how best to promote your offer?  You could teach one how to use ezine advertising; another how to buy PPC ads in numerous engines; still another how to distribute ezine articles.
                    (Here’s an idea:  how about you purchase a copy of the latest traffic tool or manual for one of your affiliates and get them involved in using it to promote you?!)

Can you imagine the impact?

Step 3:  *SPREAD* Your Affiliate Program.

Finally, you want to continue growing your program by recruiting more and more affiliates.  As your numbers grow, so will your results.

The bottom line is simple:  instead of “juggling” a bunch of different traffic ideas, a much more effective use of your time is to focus on ONE source of traffic:  your own affiliate program.

Juggling is great for clowns, but lousy for internet marketers.
