Well, it’s been another fun weekend, we had family over and fired up the grill and it was nice, after all the rain and seemingly daily storms to have a get-together without all of those worries.But now it’s Monday, and I’ve already heard several people complain that things are tough, life sucks and how bad times are right now.

One of the things I’ve learned over time is that not all coaching is created equal.

Now I am not talking about the quality of the coaching program itself, nor of the information provided, no, not even about the coach or mentors themselves.

What I am actually referring to is if the material you are learning is right for you. Where you are at right now, the level of experience in your chosen field…

You see all too often I hear about people getting involved in coaching programs because of some slick mailing or sales copy and then they stand there confused, dumbfounded and even more lost than before they started.

Ok, so in my last post I mentioned I was doing some testing and reviewing of TweetMyBlog, a free Wordpress plugin you can get at http://www.xaviernelson.com/linksto/blogtweetgift and I wanted to get you an update of how things are coming along…

Now I did tell you that I am not a Twitter expert, but didn’t really need to be either. I also just watched the installation and setup video they also provide you (aside from the pdf) and it was also very easy to follow. A lot of people like watching and learning instead of reading about it and you can always pause the video, complete your action step and then move on to the next part, so it’s definitely a nice touch that they made that available.

I mentioned I thought the instructions are outdated and I owe an apology there, I forgot that this blog is still using WP 2.2 and the instructions are actually for 2.5.1 so they are indeed based on the latest version (guess I should get with the times eh? lol).

Now I noticed that when I post to my blog and hit publish the update on my Twitter Page seems to be instantly (pretty much) and the plugin here on the blog also is showing the new entry too, so that’s pretty cool. However, if you are using something else to make your tweets like twhirl or even updating it directly from your twitter page, then it seems to take a tiny bit longer to show up on your blog’s plugin. Not too long however, just a minute or so I’ve noticed and that’s just fine.

I don’t like that if you actually have a word or in my case a longer url in your twitter post like http://www.xaviernelson.com/nichevremegadeal (meaning something that has no spaces) it doesn’t have a way to handle that and if your sidebar isn’t long enough then it will slide out of the sidebar as you may still be able to see at the bottom of this page in the right-hand side bar. Ok, that’s probably more about me not understanding Twitter enough, since almost all the tweets I see my friends making all use the shortened url versions, so lesson learned there for the future and the good thing is that TweetMyBlog automatically uses the shortened versions of links and as you tweet more or add blog posts, the older entries are replaced so they will disappear from my blog and not look so odd. But still, it would be nice if it had a better way to deal with that in TweetMyBlog’s plugin (but I am not a programmer or developer and have no clue how tough that would be).

Maybe Soren and John will catch wind of these testing and review posts I am making here and stop by and add some comments and give his input too, I would think that would help a lot of users (not just me lol). Actually, if you post your feedback and comments about TweetMyBlog here I’ll definitely make sure John and Soren get to see them all.

Now in all fairness Soren and John did mention they weren’t the only feed poster out there, for example, I just saw a blog post by Andy Beal on Mashable where he mentioned TwitterFeed.com for example, HOWEVER…. What they offer that affiliates can make some extra revenue with is not a bad deal either, it’s a pretty decent collection of resources (if I may say so myself) and has a lot of bang for the buck!

Here are three other (maybe minor) things I didn’t like too much about TweetMyBlog:

1. While the plugin on your blog contains your affiliate link, if you go and look at your Twitter page after you post to your blog, the link there doesn’t contain the affiliate link, so anyone that’s looking at your twitter page (instead of your blog) and is curious about the tweet you did ‘4 minutes ago from TweetMyBlog’ and clicks through from there, well, you won’t get any commissions on that. Would be nice if they could get the affiliate link to transmit there too. Not trying to be greedy here, after all John and Soren want to make some money too, but hey, we all have food to put on the table, right?
2. When someone clicks a link to your blogpost from Twitter (that was tweeted through TweetMyBlog automatically) then the top of the page (which would be your blog) includes a frame to advertise TweetMyBlog to the visitor. Personally, that’s ok and cool with me, especially since it also contains my affiliate link (they did that pretty cool), but the downside is their frame sits on top of my site and is made to look almost like it’s a banner ad or part of my page. It doesn’t match the look and feel of my site and I don’t think I want people coming over from Twitter to think it is. It would be nicer if there was more of a border to indicate it’s not part of the site the visitor is seeing and also to have a ‘close frame’ option. Allowing your visitor to close the frame is I think a minimum addition John and Soren should consider, even sites like About.com do it.
3. One other thing is that the widget plugin allows you to choose how many tweets you want to display on your blog, but to be honest I think only have 5, 10, 15 or 20 to choose from is somewhat limiting. I played around with how long the list gets and with just 5 tweets it almost seems too short on my blog, but 10 already almost seems too long. Might be nice if there was an option to have 7 or 8 tweets (something between 5 and 10 essentially). I definitely can’t see myself putting a list of my last 15 or more tweets on my blog however some people might like that.

But here’s maybe something that they can use to really make TweetMyBlog shine…

What if they added a ‘Bookmark This Page’ or a ‘Tell A Friend’ option to their frame when someone comes over via Twitter after seeing a tweet through TweetMyBlog? It would help TweetMyBlog’s users (and also make them more loyal) and the resulting bookmark could even (don’t know how easy all of this is technically of course since I am not a programmer) include the TweetMyBlog Affiliate Link and Promo frame perhaps. Alternatively, if they got a ‘Tell A Friend’ option going, the outgoing email could promo not just the blog post in question, but also the TweetMyBlog affiliate link again, further increasing the exposure of this cool WP plugin. If Soren and John wanted to go really crazy, maybe they could even include some Social Bookmarking Features into their frame, allowing a visitor to ‘digg’, ’stumbleupon’, add to ‘technorati’ and the more popular services too.

Anyway those are just a few of my suggestions and thoughts about TweetMyBlog. Take ‘em or leave ‘em, all I care is that I hope they help you

P.s. Word of caution - I just noticed that if you go back and edit an existing post like I just did to add this warning, it will post another tweet on your twitter page, basically duplicating what you just did. If you look at http://www.twitter.com/XavierNelson (depending on how soon you look at it) you might see three entries about this new blog post, that’s not what I wanted so definitely something to keep in mind. Now I do know at Twitter that you can delete tweets too (with the trashcan) but I don’t know if that removes them from the system in general or just from the page you yourself are looking at. If it removes it from the system in general, just remember to go to Twitter after you edit an existing post and kill the duplicate tweets I guess - John, Soren, great work all around with your free TweetMyBlog Worpress Plugin and I hope some of these suggestions and thoughts can help to make it even better.

Alright, I came across this today because Soren is a friend and figured I’d check it out, but to be honest, I wasn’t sure what to think. I could see some possibilities but I was intrigued enough to take a closer look….

Now I will tell you, I didn’t go follow the crowd right away and rush over to Twitter when all that insanity started and everyone and their dog was hollering about “You Need To Be On Twitter” but I did eventually make my way over there just recently (as reported here lol) and got set up at http://www.twitter.com/XavierNelson.

Now I do have this new TweetMyBlog (one of the cool parts is that it’s free from http://www.xaviernelson.com/linksto/blogtweetgift) setup on XavierNelson.com already.

It was quite easy, took me only 5 minutes approx. but the nice thing is that they didn’t just have a PDF with instructions, but there’s a video too. I know a little about plugins so I didn’t need the video (going to watch that in a moment), but the pdf had everything I needed. On a sidenote, some of the instructions of the pdf don’t match up with my version of Wordpress, but that’s ok, noticed a few plugins where it seems like the instructions are for an older version of the dashboard.

Sooooooo, anyway, if you scroll down any page at XavierNelson.com on the right-hand bar there’s “What’s Happening At Twitter:” but you’ll probably see a problem right away (I definitely did lol)….

Definitely will have to open up a support ticket to see what can be done about those urls sticking out on the side like that, definitely shouldn’t happen.

Now the next part of this testing will be to see if a Tweet shows up in my twitter page when I post this review of TweetMyBlog.

Overall however, for starters if you will, I don’t think it’s a bad thing to add to your blog.
