Ok, so in my last post I mentioned I was doing some testing and reviewing of TweetMyBlog, a free Wordpress plugin you can get at http://www.xaviernelson.com/linksto/blogtweetgift and I wanted to get you an update of how things are coming along…

Now I did tell you that I am not a Twitter expert, but didn’t really need to be either. I also just watched the installation and setup video they also provide you (aside from the pdf) and it was also very easy to follow. A lot of people like watching and learning instead of reading about it and you can always pause the video, complete your action step and then move on to the next part, so it’s definitely a nice touch that they made that available.

I mentioned I thought the instructions are outdated and I owe an apology there, I forgot that this blog is still using WP 2.2 and the instructions are actually for 2.5.1 so they are indeed based on the latest version (guess I should get with the times eh? lol).

Now I noticed that when I post to my blog and hit publish the update on my Twitter Page seems to be instantly (pretty much) and the plugin here on the blog also is showing the new entry too, so that’s pretty cool. However, if you are using something else to make your tweets like twhirl or even updating it directly from your twitter page, then it seems to take a tiny bit longer to show up on your blog’s plugin. Not too long however, just a minute or so I’ve noticed and that’s just fine.

I don’t like that if you actually have a word or in my case a longer url in your twitter post like http://www.xaviernelson.com/nichevremegadeal (meaning something that has no spaces) it doesn’t have a way to handle that and if your sidebar isn’t long enough then it will slide out of the sidebar as you may still be able to see at the bottom of this page in the right-hand side bar. Ok, that’s probably more about me not understanding Twitter enough, since almost all the tweets I see my friends making all use the shortened url versions, so lesson learned there for the future and the good thing is that TweetMyBlog automatically uses the shortened versions of links and as you tweet more or add blog posts, the older entries are replaced so they will disappear from my blog and not look so odd. But still, it would be nice if it had a better way to deal with that in TweetMyBlog’s plugin (but I am not a programmer or developer and have no clue how tough that would be).

Maybe Soren and John will catch wind of these testing and review posts I am making here and stop by and add some comments and give his input too, I would think that would help a lot of users (not just me lol). Actually, if you post your feedback and comments about TweetMyBlog here I’ll definitely make sure John and Soren get to see them all.

Alright, back to testing results…

Now in all fairness Soren and John did mention they weren’t the only feed poster out there, for example, I just saw a blog post by Andy Beal on Mashable where he mentioned TwitterFeed.com for example, HOWEVER…. TweetMyBlog also has an affiliate program built in, allowing you an opportunity to make a few bucks in the process too and that’s always nice in my book

What they offer that affiliates can make some extra revenue with is not a bad deal either, it’s a pretty decent collection of resources (if I may say so myself) and has a lot of bang for the buck!

Here are three other (maybe minor) things I didn’t like too much about TweetMyBlog:

1. While the plugin on your blog contains your affiliate link, if you go and look at your Twitter page after you post to your blog, the link there doesn’t contain the affiliate link, so anyone that’s looking at your twitter page (instead of your blog) and is curious about the tweet you did ‘4 minutes ago from TweetMyBlog’ and clicks through from there, well, you won’t get any commissions on that. Would be nice if they could get the affiliate link to transmit there too. Not trying to be greedy here, after all John and Soren want to make some money too, but hey, we all have food to put on the table, right?
2. When someone clicks a link to your blogpost from Twitter (that was tweeted through TweetMyBlog automatically) then the top of the page (which would be your blog) includes a frame to advertise TweetMyBlog to the visitor. Personally, that’s ok and cool with me, especially since it also contains my affiliate link (they did that pretty cool), but the downside is their frame sits on top of my site and is made to look almost like it’s a banner ad or part of my page. It doesn’t match the look and feel of my site and I don’t think I want people coming over from Twitter to think it is. It would be nicer if there was more of a border to indicate it’s not part of the site the visitor is seeing and also to have a ‘close frame’ option. Allowing your visitor to close the frame is I think a minimum addition John and Soren should consider, even sites like About.com do it.
3. One other thing is that the widget plugin allows you to choose how many tweets you want to display on your blog, but to be honest I think only have 5, 10, 15 or 20 to choose from is somewhat limiting. I played around with how long the list gets and with just 5 tweets it almost seems too short on my blog, but 10 already almost seems too long. Might be nice if there was an option to have 7 or 8 tweets (something between 5 and 10 essentially). I definitely can’t see myself putting a list of my last 15 or more tweets on my blog however some people might like that.

But here’s maybe something that they can use to really make TweetMyBlog shine…

What if they added a ‘Bookmark This Page’ or a ‘Tell A Friend’ option to their frame when someone comes over via Twitter after seeing a tweet through TweetMyBlog? It would help TweetMyBlog’s users (and also make them more loyal) and the resulting bookmark could even (don’t know how easy all of this is technically of course since I am not a programmer) include the TweetMyBlog Affiliate Link and Promo frame perhaps. Alternatively, if they got a ‘Tell A Friend’ option going, the outgoing email could promo not just the blog post in question, but also the TweetMyBlog affiliate link again, further increasing the exposure of this cool WP plugin. If Soren and John wanted to go really crazy, maybe they could even include some Social Bookmarking Features into their frame, allowing a visitor to ‘digg’, ’stumbleupon’, add to ‘technorati’ and the more popular services too.

Anyway those are just a few of my suggestions and thoughts about TweetMyBlog. Take ‘em or leave ‘em, all I care is that I hope they help you

Alright, I have some fun and interesting things for you today, so let’s get right to it…

Remember yesterday (just about 24 hours ago), I told you about the launch of my newest collection that I put up for you at ‘Starting Out Online’…

Now, as you already know from our past conversations, keeping an eye on the stats is important, not just because you want to know how much you’ve made, but more importantly, you want to be able to see how you can make your deals better so more of your visitors will grab your offer.

One of the key stats most of the topdogs look at is their conversion rate, meaning how many of the people visiting their page are picking up their offer. On the net, you often hear that if you can get a 1 to 2% conversion rate then you are doing ‘ok’ to ‘good’. Of course there are a lot of other things that tie into that, such as ‘how much’ is the deal, how targeted are the people seeing the offer and so forth and so on.

Well, so far, the collection I uploaded at ‘Starting Out Online’ is converting at 5.8%, which means that for every 100 people that see it, 5.8 (ok, let’s say 6, I don’t like cutting people into pieces lol) are grabbing this deal I put together.

BUT, you know what’s really incredible???

Remember I told you that I also put together an extra special deal that you can see when you pick up the main package at ‘Starting Out Online’ and that I suggested you should pay close attention to it???

Well, the conversion rate for that special package is sitting at 60.9% right now!

If I had realized how much easier life would be while I am sick I would have grown my affiliate program a long time ago. Last night our server team performed some maintenance and also did some upgrades to the internal network capacity in addition to working on more redundancy features of the server farm. All of this extra work to help make XavierNelson.com stand strong during the upcoming launches (I have some fun things planned for you) made me think about getting more traffic to the site and blog.

I noticed some new sites and services recently that promise to help with bringing more targeted visitors to your site and also to generate you some more income, but I wanted to test them out a little first to see if it’s worth the effort. After all, what good will it do me to tell you about some of these if they don’t bring any new visitors, right?

Two of them I will post about on another day, they take a few days to get confirmed with (I like that they make sure and confirm, keeps the ‘riff-raff’ out of their networks) but I do have a couple of updates for you today that you can use yourself and hey, the price is right - FREE!

As you already know, lately BlogRush has been making a lot of waves with their very unique new service that brings you targeted traffic to your blog, but since the massive and incredible launch of their free service, a lot of people have been grumbling because some of the features they would like just aren’t there - yet…

When http://www.xaviernelson.com/access/to/freeblogtraffic was launched, a mass influx brought the servers nearly to it’s knees and after that, the usual thing happened… It’s always the same…. Something good comes out and people start to abuse the system.

So I was very happy when I saw that the team at BlogRush decided to move things to a manual review of every member’s site to make sure there were no further abuses and they have been working on a lot of new goodies to take BlogRush to another level, something else I am very excited about. I read on John Reese’s blog about the latest updates and even got a sneak peek at screenshots of the new dashboard area and it’s definitely going continue to be a powerful traffic tool bringing free targeted traffic to your blog, so make sure to register for your own free blog traffic at http://www.xaviernelson.com/access/to/freeblogtraffic too.
But that wasn’t really the new ‘toys’ and tools I had wanted to talk about, but I felt the update about BlogRush was needed since some people still are on the fence and unsure about it.

On to the new traffic tools and income sources I have been playing with…
One of the first things I did was rearrange some of the widgets on my sidebars at XavierNelson.com, I hope you like the new layout, drop me a note or better yet, post your comments.

Then I added a small mapping widget that I got from Feedjit just for fun really. This widget doesn’t bring you any new visitors, but if you look on the right side, you’ll see a small map of the globe and the red dots are recent visitors to the site. The team at http://runurl.com/xx.php?enh also has a few other Live Traffic Stat Feed options you can use and they are all free. Not that you will get any more exposure for your own site or extra revenue, but it’s always nice to see where your visitors are coming from. I will say that I am not 100% convinced as to how accurate it is yet, because my own statistics show a much larger visitor count since I installed it, but it’s still new, so we’ll see how it goes.

I have always liked being able to see where in the world you are located when you come to visit my blog and especially since I started using StatCounter as my main statistics tracker I have made sure to peek at their map more frequently to see a few of the recent visitors (there instead of a few dots, I have 9 pages of maps with dots, unlike the mini map from Feedjit). Here’s an example of what one of the maps from StatCounter.com (also free) looks like, but it’s definitely always interesting (this example picture is a lot smaller than what you actually see in your account):

As a matter of fact, it was the pin on one of my maps that showed me that one of my most frequent visitors (I hope I don’t embarass her, but she’s a sweetheart and someone to keep a close eye on in the Internet Marketing Crowd) Gitte (Hallo meine Freunde aus Deutschland - Ganz besondere Gruesse an alle aus meiner Heimat, der Coburger gegend in Oberfranken).

I noticed one of the pins came from Germany and it led me to find someone had written a review about my own blog at StumbleUpon (another site I just recently discovered myself) and you can see it for yourself at http://www.stumbleupon.com/url/www.xaviernelson.com/

There are a lot of Social Networking and Community sites all over the internet, such as the one I introduced you to in the past at Apsense where you can setup your own community in about 10 minutes and more are popping up all over the place every day.

As you’ve seen in the past, I have a growing MyBlogLog Community and new services that are pretty similar have also been coming out of the woodworks. I have added a couple others such as Bumpzee and Criteo. Now I do have to admit that I have not so far been able to figure out everything you can do with these two services, but they definitely have quite a bit to offer and are worth taking a closer look at. Another one I just added was BlogCatalog but it does take a couple of days to be approved by them, so I will report on my experiences with them in a few days.

All in all, each of these services were pretty easy to get rolling with and you really don’t need a lot of technical (if any) experience to get them setup on your blog or website.

Another new traffic service I am testing is AdgridWork which provides you with adblocks, but you don’t get paid for them, but instead receive credits for every display on your own site and in turn your ad is shown on other sites. It’s very similar to the old fashioned banner and link exchanges, but with a more up-to-date touch to it.
Now like I said, some of these bring me extra traffic, but I have also added some new revenue streams to my blog that you can use too (and they are also free)…

CrispAds displays targeted ads to any visitors, and you can use it for your site too, but I am rather intrigued about the ad widget I got at WidgetBucks today. It looks really sharp, I am able to choose from the categories of ads I want to display or allow their bot to scan and find good ads that match my content (although I think it takes a while for the system to do that, so at first your ads may not match your site content). All in all, I liked WidgetBucks because it looks classy and as long as the ads to match up to the content in the long run, I will be very happy with it I am sure and it pays quite a bit more than some other traditional blog revenue streams.
